According to documents leaked from U.S. trade talks from Vietnam, a deal U.S. negotiators are pressing for would negatively impact efforts to fight AIDS, The Huffington Post reports. The deal would impose intellectual property laws that allow American drug companies to monopolize supplies of various pharmaceuticals. The resulting price increase for HIV medications would seriously hamper relief efforts, including the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which has provided Vietnam with $320 million in AIDS funding since 2004.
