amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS Gala in France Raises $35 Million

On May 23, amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research raised a record $35 million at its 21st annual Cinema Against AIDS event. Held at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, the black tie affair was well attended by celebrities, fashion designers and politicians. All of the money will help amfAR continue the fight against HIV/AIDS with the goal of finding a cure.

Events throughout the night included a live auction, an all-red fashion show and performances by Robin Thicke, Lana Del Rey, Aloe Blacc and Andrea Bocelli.

Sharon Stone, amfAR’s global fundraising chairman, and film producer Harvey Weinstein helped lead the night’s auction, which included a chance to bid on the last seat on a flight to space along with Leonardo DiCaprio on Virgin Galactic. It sold for $1 million. The first seat was auctioned off at least year’s gala.

Other celebrities in attendance included Gael Garcia Bernal, Justin Bieber, Bulgari ambassador Adrien Brody, Carole Bouquet, Jessica Chastain, HRH Princess of Venice Jane Campion, Clotilde Courau, Sofia Coppola, Marion Cotillard, Clotilde Courau, Willem Dafoe, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Deneuve, Luke Evans, Jane Fonda, amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost, Adrian Grenier, Lewis Hamilton, Eva Herzigova, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Karlie Kloss, Jon Kortajarena, Karolina Kurkova, Peter Lindbergh, Kellan Lutz, Thomas Mars, Kylie Minogue and many others.

All guests were invited to an exclusive after party following the dinner.

The first Cinema Against AIDS was hosted by the founding international chairman Dame Elizabeth Taylor in 1993 and has since become the most wanted ticket in Cannes and amfAR’s most successful fundraising event.
