Canadian Judge Rejects Jail Time for Woman Who Spit at Police
A Canadian judge has rejected a six-month jail term for a woman who spat at a police officer, CBC News reports. Tracy Ida Ratt pleaded guilty to impaired driving and assaulting a police officer. She struggled with officers during her arrest and spat at them, but was charged for spitting in the eye of one of the officers. The judge sentenced Ratt to time already served, which was five days, and six months probation. The judge called it an “urban myth” that police officers get serious injuries from spitting and that there were no documented cases of a police officer getting HIV from spitting.

Hooray! It appears that the courts and judicial system in Canada has a brain! Perhaps we can do some "trickle down" to our system...
