Among youth ages 13 to 24, new data shows that 72 percent of new HIV cases in 2010 were among men who have sex with men (MSM) and 57 percent were among African Americans, according to a statement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Youth represent 26 percent of all new HIV cases each year, and 60 percent of youth living with HIV are unaware of their status. Despite CDC recommendations for routine HIV testing of youth in medical settings, 35 percent of youth ages 18 to 24 have been tested, 22 percent of sexually experienced high school students have been tested, and 13 percent of high school students overall have been tested.
