A blood-plasma donor in Washington State is suing the donation testing facility associated with her health clinic in Idaho after its lab technicians misdiagnosed her with HIV as well as the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), the Spokesman Review reports. Melissa Bloom, a Spokane–based donor who has since tested negative for all three viruses, alleges that BioLife Plasma Services, a Pennsylvania–based company that received a shipment of 100 blood samples from the clinic, acted negligently when it tested the batch. Bloom, who claims the false-positive results caused her “debilitating emotional distress,” is now seeking more than $10,000 in punitive damages.
