Gambian President Claims Herbs Cured 68 People of HIV
Yahya Jammeh, president of the West African nation of Gambia, said in a recent state television broadcast that a secret herbal remedy he found has cured 68 people of HIV, Reuters reports. Jammeh claims that this is the seventh group he cured of HIV since 2007, when he first claimed that his boiled herbs cured the virus. Western medical experts have discredited this herbal remedy. The World Health Organization is concerned because people are required to stop their antiretroviral therapy to take the herbs. According to the United Nations, 2 percent of Gambia’s 1.8 million people have HIV.

I am skeptical of the patients having to stop their HIV regimen to take this herbal remedy. Medical science has always discarded and debunked herbal medicine as curative or healing when, in truth, some herbal remedies are quite effective. I agree and disagree....if he is going to make such claims he should show evidence of his research and the participants. Western medicine should not easily dismiss this and should participate and then make a sound judgement based on evidence.
