Saturday, September 27, is National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NGMHAAD). Launched in 2008, NGMHAAD seeks to recognize the disproportionate impact of the epidemic on gay men.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) represent over half of the more than 1 million people living with HIV in the United States. MSM also account for two thirds of all new U.S. HIV cases annually.

In addition to recognizing the impact of the virus on MSM, NGMHAAD also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing for MSM. About 1 in 5 HIV-positive MSM are undiagnosed.

Events are taking place across the country to mark this awareness day. Search the Twitter hashtag #NGMHAAD for more information.
