Thursday, June 27, is National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). This annual awareness day, which promotes HIV testing nationwide, was first observed in 1995. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that about 20 percent of the 1.1 million people living with the virus in the United States are unaware of their HIV-positive status. Events are taking place across the country to commemorate the day.
