National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2014
Thursday, April 10, is the second National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD), an annual observance to educate the U.S. public about the impact of the virus on young people nationwide. NYHAAD also seeks to highlight HIV/AIDS advocacy by young people. Events will be held across the country to mark the occasion.
Advocates for Youth is the lead organization for NYHAAD. The group champions efforts to help young people make informed decisions about their reproductive and sexual health. They directly train more than 2,000 youth activists each year, which has resulted in more 75,000 participants worldwide in their Youth Activist Network.
According to Advocates for Youth, about 34,000 young people ages 13 to 24 are living with HIV in the United States. Also, about one in four new HIV cases in the United States are among young people.
