San Diego Man Accused of HIV Fraud Pleads Not Guilty
Authorities allege a San Diego man posed as a doctor who promised patients he could cure HIV and cancer, City News Service reports. Keith Allen Barton pleaded not guilty to multiple felony counts of treating people without a license, identity theft and grand theft charges. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail. Prosecutors allege that Barton promised to cure a woman and her children of HIV. One of the children died as a result of not receiving effective treatment. The mother allegedly paid Barton $18,000 for his services.
