Governor Andrew Cuomo (D–N.Y.) has granted a pardon to Seymour Hunter, an HIV/AIDS housing administrator, according to a Cuomo statement. Homeless and battling a substance addiction, Hunter was convicted in 1994 of third-degree attempted sale of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to a day in jail and five years of probation. He successfully completed probation and a rehabilitation program. Hunter works for The Actors Fund, a nonprofit that helps all professionals in the performing arts and entertainment. He is a rent coordinator at a residence for the elderly, low-income professionals and people living with HIV/AIDS. Born in Jamaica, the 70-year-old Hunter has been a permanent resident of the United States for 44 years and seeks to become a U.S. citizen. The governor also granted pardons to two other New Yorkers. “Each has shown themselves to be law-abiding citizens who have contributed to society, given back to their communities and are deserving of a second chance,” Cuomo said.
