Despite controversy, students at the University of Houston Downtown have elected Kristopher Sharp as vice president of their student body. The openly gay and HIV-positive candidate was subjected to discrimination during the campaign. A flier circulated on the college campus showed a picture of him with an X over it. Above it was a headline, “Want AIDS?” Below it was a caption saying not to support his and his running mate’s “homosexual agenda.” On the back of the flier was a copy of a medical document containing his home address, phone number and HIV status.
