The annual United States Conference on AIDS (USCA2015) takes place September 10 to 13 in Washington, DC. Organized by the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC), the conference is the country’s largest AIDS-related gathering.
This year’s event focuses on disparities in the epidemic, as is evident in the conference’s theme: “The numbers don’t lie: It’s time to end disparities!”
The events kicked off Wednesday, September 9, with an HIV action day in which participants visit Capitol Hill to speak with their senators about the epidemic (many participants received training and policy updates the previous day).
USCA2015 includes an exhibit hall, a master lecture series, plenary discussions and workshops. Speakers slated to appear include U.S. Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D–Calif.) (who will receive the Elizabeth Taylor Legacy Award) and Maxine Waters (D–Calif.), black transgender advocate Valerie Spencer, social media guru Davey Wavey, and the first person cured of HIV, Timothy Ray Brown.
