The press release's statement that "It is not possible to establish proof of HIV transmission from one individual to another, even with the most advanced scientific tools" is a serious misrepresentation. Rather, the consensus was that phylogenetic testing cannot BY ITSELF prove that person A infected person B, because it cannot exclude that person B infected person A, or that both were infected by an unknown person C: additional evidence is needed to establish directionality.
