The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has gathered 371,000 signatures in support of a new Los Angeles County ballot measure that would tighten the mandate requiring porn actors to use condoms for all anal and vaginal sex scenes in adult film productions, The Huffington Post reports. An ordinance passed by the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has required porn actors to use condoms in the city since March after porn actor Derrick Burts publicly disclosed that he had likely contracted HIV on an adult film set. The proposed ballot measure would extend this requirement to all of Los Angeles County. In addition, it would enhance the ability of regulators to impose fines and criminal charges. It would also help them enforce the mandate through the county’s health permit process, which is already used for tattoo parlors and bathhouses. Critics of the ballot measure express worries that it may drive film productions out of Los Angeles County or may move porn underground.
