What do Michael Jackson, Cher and AIDS have in common? Aside from never seeming to go away, the answer is Africa. In March, Jackson announced a possible AIDS fundraising concert tour of Africa—home to two-thirds of the earth’s HIVers. He can’t heal the world, however, without travel permission from the judge of his upcoming trial.

Cher, meanwhile, hitched her pro-bono star to Keep a Child Alive, a U.S. org that buys HIV meds for Africans by asking sponsors for a dollar a day. She’s already sprung for five families and shot a PSA, asking, “How could our society let a beatable enemy kill millions?” If only she could turn back time.
