Most Americans support legalizing medical marijuana, but a slim majority doesn’t support full pot legalization, according to a new national CBS News poll. While 51 percent of Americans think marijuana use should be illegal, the poll found that 77 percent of Americans think that doctors should be allowed to prescribe marijuana for serious medical conditions. The poll also found that the strongest regional support for legalizing marijuana is in the West, which includes 10 of the 16 states with some form of legal marijuana use. While Americans support medical marijuana legalization, the poll revealed that only about 31 percent of people believe that marijuana bought under state-authorized medical marijuana programs is actually used to alleviate medical conditions.
