HIV prevention programs in Asia reach only one in three sex workers, AlertNet reports. According to the article, this is because there are few financial resources for targeting sex workers and their clients. Programs aimed at this demographic accounted for between 0.1 percent and 10 percent of HIV/AIDS funding between 2007 and 2009 in six Asian countries. Although HIV prevalence is less than 1 percent in Asia, the HIV rate among sex workers is 20 percent.
