Bill Gates, cofounder of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is seeking creative approaches and a renewed sense of urgency in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the United States and across the world, according to his 2011 Annual Letter from the foundation. In the document, Gates detailed the progress made and the work that still needs to be done. The foundation is focusing on reducing mother-to-child transmission, supporting prevention counseling, increasing male circumcision and pushing for the development of vaginal microbicides and pre-exposure prophylaxis. Gates still calls a vaccine the best tool to fight HIV.
