Smells like more Big-Pharma bulls*&t to me. Follow the money - who paid for this "study".
I am wondering if it could be related to periods of extreme dieting related to body image concerns. We see low bone density issues in women struggling with eating disorders. I am wondering if the same could be true for these men.
There is no mention in the study of the testosterone levels in all the test subjects. Also, if smoking is a such a risk factor in low BMD for men in gerneral, then why was it not tracked in the study for all groups?

I believe this study is likely flawed! I have suffered from low bone density- I've been clean, sober, smoke free, healthy lifestyle, no compulsive diet and exercised constantly since diagnosis HIV+ in 1985. I've known many friends who actually died early on from spine and hip degeneration- before treatment with HART was available! What continually disturbs me about all these multiple studies and millions spent- is one simple ? Why are there no studies specific to long term survivor/thrivers?
