I am curious, how many years did the 20 year old female college student get for NOT haveing SAFE SEX and protecting her OWN body ?
I have had HIV for going on 3 years, and yes, the stigma is there, but by not disclosing your status, you are taking that person's informed consent away from them. While we do need to eliminate the stigma, we also need to understand that some people do not WANT to risk contracting HIV, much like some of us who already have it never wanted to risk contracting it.
He was in a relationship with her for a whole "several" months, which makes it (obviously) a deeply commited monogamous relationship.... Since SHE was having sex with this new boyfriend, did it not occur to HER that they use a condom? How is HE the villian facing a minimum of 3 years of jail time, and SHE'S the offended party with no responsibility in this consenual sex and no culpability to any outcome? This kind of double standard has got to stop.
When will people learn disclosure is mandatory in most US states, one thing that he will likely get while in jail is an education on unprotected sex that he will never forget.
as long as 2+2 continues to equal 5 the stigma will never end. If a person consents to sexual activity no one but that individual is responsible for the consequence regardless if its a failied relaitionship crabsor hiv. afterall isnt HIV a manageable disese. Isn't it 'functionally cured" enough with the bulls*&it. no one has to die from aids. at least not in a country that is 'functionally cured" such bulls*%t.
I am stuck with hiv for over 28 years now and I tell anyone who is interested that I am poz, who cares ? ¿ its a disease , I don't have sex anymore , its just too risky. I have my best friend in my right hand.
Stigma continues to run the lives of people with HIV/AIDS. Disclosure is so important and yet to not disclose can cost you your freedom. Fear of social death compelles people to not do the right thing. We have to eradicate stigma. Now!

this is not about protection of the public, it is about keeping HIVpos and gays in thier place, otherwise, we would have legislation that all those with cancer-hpv viruses would have to notify us of their current or previous cancer virus. Note, Michael Douglas, did the women let him know as she passed a virus to him? And she will not have to, only HIV is prosecuted. You could have tetanus-swine flu-pancreatic cancer virus, and never be prosecuted for sex.
