Caribbean leaders shared how stigma remains a challenge in the fight against HIV/AIDS during a two-day human rights symposium, IPS News reports. Stigma is linked to long-held prejudices and rejection of what is perceived as “abnormal sexual behavior and wrongful sexual orientation,” said Ernest Massiah, MD, director of the UNAIDS Caribbean Regional Support Team. This stigma threatens people in the Caribbean by preventing them from HIV education, testing and treatment.
