New data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that an increasing number of older men and college students throughout the country have contracted HIV through unsafe sex in recent years, Xinhuanet reports. About 3,000 men ages 60 and older were diagnosed throughout 2010—an increase from 2005 in which 483 in the demographic became infected. Also, from January to October of this year, 1,252 young people were discovered to have the virus, but most prominently among men ages 20 to 24. Estimates show that of the nearly 346,000 people with HIV/AIDS in China, 81.6 percent acquired HIV through sexual intercourse.
