A new campaign titled “Choose to Stand Up” aims to reduce stigma and discrimination for HIV-positive Africans in New York City, PlusNews reports. The campaign is the result of a partnership between the nonprofit African Service Committee and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. According to the article, fears of deportation and of rejection by family and friends make it more difficult for African immigrants to get tested or follow through on treatment and care.
