The cost of living: Marcus Conant, MD, a prominent HIV/AIDS physician who ran one of the world’s largest private practices for people with HIV/AIDS, is shutting down his practice in San Francisco because of rising costs, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. His decision to close comes after using his personal savings and scaling back his practice to part-time. Among his many distinctions, Conant identified some of the first cases of Kaposi’s sarcoma and helped create the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.
