Leatherman, that is rather simple - because that is what the public would identify with - the politician understands this - so should you - not saying its right - but reality check required, that is how the world is still viewed.
i used to be a fool and believe in the HIV scheme. as such i used to 'care' about a cure. now that i know better, i only hope that those who have withheld curing those infected die a horrifying death. and if i die of aids, i don't give a damn. enough giving a damn about things that don't matter, like a cure for hiv.
I was on a high risk state insurance policy that cost me approx. $1100/mo I attained DP privileges of insurance coverage for $183/mo. through a BCBS state coverage of a large industry group. BCBS requires this group to use MEDCO as their RX drug provider. BCBS requires a total policy $500 yearly deductible. After that I pay nothing but $48 for a 3 month non-generic drug supply and $16/3 mo. for generic drugs. Why is this not used as a prototype when BCBS and MEDCO make a good profit from this?
While this might be a good religious illustration, it seems to have nothing to do with creditting science of supplying a cure; instead it seems to imply that living "right" (as a nice well-dressed nuclear family) will get god to grant me the "cure".
And why does this god-like hand seem to be delivering the cure to a white middle-class heterosexual family? The vast majority of those infected with HIV are black families in Africa, single gay men in America and those affected by poverty and the lack of education, neither which are represented in this picture.
Can someone explain to me the logic of one of the graphics that went with this article? Why does it seem like it's a mystery hand from the clouds delivering the miracle "cure"? I always thought the cure was going to come from scientists in labs with beakers and microscopes. if the cure is coming from the hand of god, does that mean that god's been withholding the cure all this time?

This article covered all the topic areas, and I see how some may have missed it in the end. The main points involve a continuing efforts to increase a newly infected person's access to care and retain them in healthcare, as well as thecollaboration for a cure. A true successful cure therefore would occur not only once we have "it", but when at that time, everyone who has HIV can get "it." Hope that helped!
