The Libyan High Judicial Counsel yesterday commuted the death sentences of five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor accused of deliberately infecting hundreds of Libyan children with HIV. The case had gone on for nearly a decade, and just last week the Libyan Supreme Court upheld a second round of death sentences. The sentences were changed to life in prison after the families of the children received $1 million each from an unspecified source. The prisoners are now expected to be transferred to Bulgaria.
