Elton John and his partner David Furnish plan to bring the critically acclaimed Broadway play The Normal Heart to the United Kingdom, the Herald Sun reports. John and Furnish will work to help fund and stage future U.K. productions. Written by Larry Kramer, a founder of Gay Men’s Health Crisis and ACT UP, the 1985 play focuses on the rise of AIDS in mid-1980s New York City and the passionate work of those trying to fight the epidemic. According to Furnish, the play “shamed” John into fighting AIDS and prompted him 20 years ago to create the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
