I have some positive words, about the empowerment and goals I have for a business start up to get me off of SSI. If I can only get myself to a better living situation, Isolation, lack of support and Pos friends, makes everything else less of a priority. I came here to take care of mom, she passed in Jan. and I have been trying to take care of myself now, fleeing this HOPWA voucher to go someplace to live in a homeless capacity is my only option. Wish programs wud look at the whole picture.

I just spent a year in trying to get care at a ASO here in Palm Springs as a person fighting HIV each day. It was clear that the people with AIDS at this ASO needed more resources and attention then my self for I have been blessed for 25 years to not be on disability. This ASO has it all figure out and most of the clients are afraid to speak much less take action that is not approved by these old school leaders. So, non disabled or non fund Hivers will not come out for fear of loosing their Hope

Thank you Mr. Hopkins for your honest and insightful appraisal - it is inspiring to read that a public figure with your credentials has the courage to speak truthfully about various issues that have challenged HIV/AIDS advocates in their efforts to stem the tide of new infections - in my opinion, the political correctness that informs the ethos of many ASOs simply results in a polarizing effect between HIV negs and HIV pozes - which I see as the single greatest barrier to the honesty and truth telling that are required if we as gay men and lesbian women hope to see a future downward trend in the rate of infection any time soon - various studies have now confirmed that the vast majority of hetero- and homosexual citizens are barebacking and have continued to do so throughout the history of this plague, despite the incredibly tedious rhetorical apparatus that ASOs have spent billions of dollars promoting - namely - use condoms when f*&king. And political correctness (itself a form of repression) is the bedfellow of politicians, advertising-branding-marketing executives and many doctors and lawyers who valuate a log-cabin republican stance of 'a place at the table' (i.e., consultative engagement) over the actual needs of those afflicted with HIV, ostensibly resulting in the prioritization of self interest over real social progress.
