Fiji’s Health Ministry is exploring options to deal with a rise in HIV cases, Xinhua News Agency reports. Officials are calling on parents, teachers and religious groups to encourage HIV prevention, including sex education in schools. Since 1989, there have been 354 cases reported among Fiji’s 850,000 people with 43 reported in 2009. Fiji’s income is too high to solicit backing from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, but the government continues to seek funding from other sources.
