The Obama administration has released its fiscal year 2012 budget, which includes a proposed increase in funding for HIV/AIDS, according to a White House statement. The Obama FY 2012 budget includes: a $60 million transfer at the Department of Health and Human Services to support “cross-cutting collaborations” to implement the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, a $74 million increase at the National Institutes of Health for HIV/AIDS research, increased domestic discretionary HIV/AIDS funding at the Department of Health and Human Services and Veterans Affairs, an $88 million increase to expand the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program, an increase in funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce the number of HIV cases, an 11 percent increase for the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to fight HIV discrimination, and an increase in support for global AIDS programs.
