The National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council—a.k.a. the National Prevention Council, which is part of the Obama Administration—has released The National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy in order to increase the health and wellness of Americans, according to a Health and Human Services press release. In particular, the goals are to strive for tobacco-free living, prevent drug and alcohol abuse, decrease injuries and violence, and promote reproductive and sexual health, mental and emotional wellbeing, healthy eating habits and active living. Specific attention is placed on minority communities that experience higher rates of obesity, cancer, diabetes and AIDS.
