The Kerala Women's Commission in India is calling on the state government to make HIV tests mandatory before marriage, The Times of India reports. The commission is concerned about the rising number of women who contract the virus because they were unaware their future husbands were HIV positive. A study conducted by the commission in Kerala showed that an increasing number of men are getting married and keeping their HIV-positive status a secret and that at least 70 percent of women in the state who become HIV positive are fired by their employers.
