Miamihamilton, NO, you don't have the right to know, and the law says so. Do you need to know if the person has herpes too? Reason folks, reason. HIV is not transmitted through casual contact (nor toilet seats, please), and is none of this woman's business. Lawsuits are the only way this woman is provided to hold accountable those that violate her rights. Employment discrimination due to status is deplorable, and illegal! I applaud her for standing up for herself, and those living with HIV.

I am self-employed and, if I am going to be doing anything dangerous (property maintenance/management, etc.)I not only let anyone working with me, along with whom I am working for, know that I am HIV+ and Hep B+. I also inform them where I keep the nitryl gloves and anything else in the way of first aid supplies. This leaves nothing to chance. I also make sure they have access to a phone in the event I would be "gushing" blood. (I keep a spare, 'out-of-service' phone around just for 911.

Well that goes to show the world that HIV/AIDS is still not understood. We need more education as well as our health care providers need to relate that it can not be contracted threw casual contact. This country NEEDS EDUCATION. We need to be teaching our 1st graders about it. They we need to teach teach teach! There is not enough knowledge out there among the general public. It is still taboo to talk about it let alone teach the ins and outs of HIV/AIDS

So what? If someone is working in my home don't I have a right to know if they carry any communicable disease which is what HIV is after all. I am poz would probably would not employ someone to work so closely to me that had hepatitis and before you slam me, yes I DO know that they have different transmission methods. I wonder if there would have been a lawsuit if she was applying for a minimum wage nursing home job or some other position without deep pockets.
