It is unfortunate that the study investigators did not mention the use of therapeutic phlebotomy to manage this problem. In addition to increasing muscle and sex drive, testosterone can increase your bodyâ??s production of red blood cells. This hemopoietic (blood building) effect could be a good thing for those with mild anemia. An excessive production of red blood cells is called polycythemia; itâ??s not a good thing. With polycythemia the blood becomes very viscous for the heart to pump.

Why does this article so completely ignore the option of therapeutic phlebotomy? going to a blood bank with a doctor's referral is a simple and classic way of reducing hemoglobin/hematocrit one pint at a time, without interrupting the benefits that testosterone replacement therapy provides HIV+ men. Failing to even mention it is suggestive of anti-TRT bias on the part of the authors.
