The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) received a five-year, $5.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to explore HIV prevention approaches for African-American men who have sex with men (MSM), according to an MCW statement. Led by Jeffrey A. Kelly, PhD, director of the Medical College's Center for AIDS Intervention Research, the research will focus on how a social network–level approach compares with traditional testing, treatment and individual counseling for this high-risk group. Although black MSM make up only 1 percent of the population, the group accounts for 25 percent of all new HIV cases in the United States.
