More than 80 local Maryland agencies providing services to people with HIV/AIDS have finally received $61 million in federal funding after a months-long delay, the Baltimore Sun reports. The agencies in and around Baltimore depend on federal funds from the Ryan White CARE Act. Although the fiscal year began in March, Congress did not pass a budget until April, setting off a months-long delay in the delivery of funds to AIDS organizations. The agencies were forced to cut services and tap into other funding sources, but they should be receiving their federal money now.
