More than two thirds of all Mississippians who test positive for HIV refuse medical treatment, the Clarion Ledger reports. The state health department is reporting that a majority of those individuals are not getting into care because of stigma, cost and lack of access to medical care. In foregoing care, they not only damage their own health but also increase the risk of spreading the virus. Statewide, nearly 9,500 residents are HIV positive.
