Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) have received a $4.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to investigate ways to get HIV-positive men released from Los Angeles County jails into medical care and treatment, according to a UCLA statement. The study, one of 12 nationwide, is part of the NIH “Seek, Test and Treat: Addressing HIV in the Criminal Justice System” initiative. Previous studies often focused on prisons despite far more people going through jails. Researchers believe this intervention will reduce transmission rates.
