Organ donors who’ve had more than one sexual partner in the past 12 months will be labeled as “elevated risk,” but this won’t keep their organs out of the donation process, according to newly proposed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and reported by ABC News. Transplant doctors have criticized the new regulations, saying that spending time and money on HIV and hepatitis tests on donor organs will lead to more deaths among those waiting for transplants. The public comment period on the regulations—which have not yet been officially adopted—ends December 23.
