At the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City next week, Tim Mastro, MD, the senior director of Family Health International (FHI), will present findings from his study about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), reports Fox Business (foxbusiness.com, 7/27). He is scheduled to speak August 7.

His presentation, “Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis: Current and Planned Trials,” will discuss the prevention benefits of taking oral antiretroviral (ARV) meds daily for people who may have been or will be exposed to HIV.

As the former deputy director for science in the division of HIV/AIDS prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mastro has worked on numerous projects including the first international HIV vaccine efficacy trial and the CDC’s participation in the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
