The Hyacinth AIDS Foundation hosted a prom for young members of the LGBT community on May 4 in Jersey City, New Jersey. At the event, billed as The LGBT Express Yourself Prom, high school and college students ages 16 to 25 enjoyed live entertainment, dinner and a dancing contest. Admission was only $8, but guests were admitted free of charge if they agreed to be tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Rocio Ruiz, Hyacinth’s director of prevention, said, "Many LGBT students can’t bring their same-sex date to the prom, or dress as they want, so now they can—and the older kids can finally enjoy the prom they never had.”
