The most surprising paragraphs in this article, are the last ones, I always knew the pharmaceutical companies had questionable practices concerning HIV medication, I just didn't realize how far they would to increase profits.

So glad to see TAF coming on the scene and the new Stribild. This has been a good year with Triumeq also coming out. I just wish we could use our law makers and ministers to force companies not to hold out on developing and releasing these life saving drugs. They're still gonna make huge money but making it a stand alone and or releasing and seeking approval right when you have developed them could save so many lives and or complications. Anyway it's still amazing to have in the fight.

What happened to Liver function? The tests mentioned less kidney toxicity. However if you destroy the liver that does little good. I have read about boosting agents destroying the organs. Unfortunately this information is suppressed until high kill rates are reported decades later, similar to AZT. Where is the controlled studies tracking quality of life and life expectancy of those on and off ARVS? They don't exist. only speculative mathematical models.

Knew the tenofovir replacement was coming. the marketing antics of Gilead are not going to reduce the cost of HIV drugs anytime soon. At least the anti-PrEP crowd will no longer be able to tout resistance as an issue (never really was). Less drugs fewer side effects all good! Cost of HIV drugs will continue to rise.

I'm guessing the pricing of the newly released formulations will be even more astronomical than Stribild. I'm guessing legislation doesn't exist because multi-billion dollar corporations can "buy" what they want in government. The corruption is out of control. Power plays like skirting around patent protection exemplify this.

Unlike Tim, I am more than wryly amused by Gilead's machinations, I'm furious. Not only have they sat on this development while my kidney function numbers decline, they refuse to release TAF as a stand alone. If I want it, I have to switch to their choice for my regime, not my doctor's or mine. Where is Gilead's social responsibility? Where is legislation to protect consumers from this horrible behavior?

Curious if the new version will remain effective against HBV since it doesn't become active until inside cell. IOW, does the same conversion happen in targeted hepatic cells?
