Perhaps this cardinal and his church can take their riches, like jesus did, and give it to help the poor. I, for one, am not holding my breath. If we could get the pope start talking about USING condoms to PREVENT infection, perhaps we could make real progress. Take a big leap, Catholics, into the 21st Century, and use your power for GOOD. And BTW,it is THE SISTERS actually doing gods work...and now being punished by the Pope. Stand with the Sisters, not the catholic church, to see god's work!!
It has been estimated that a few hundred million dollars aimed solely at the most promising cures for those currently infected and secondly for those who will become infected is what is needed. The Vatican could easily take that out of "petty cash" and fund the end of this epidemic and save the lives of millions of people. Or they could act in concert with any number of philanthropists and get the job done quicker and with more thorough investigation of possible resistant or mutated HIV viruses.
I for one as a Christian that is gay among millions of Christian gay people am sorry to the folks where a part of the human church has hurt you and please for give us. This is human nature to be misguild through out history. I am sad that some are for freedom of. speech and religion do not give this group respect, for the church is made up beyond a few policies,Second the Christians in this faith have only been loving and kind,,even if we disagree on such trivial issues ,we all have free wil
When was the last time you heard mormons advocating for universal medical care, or Islam pushing sexual equality? Religion is a nasty thing, but if I, as a poz gay deist, had to pick a (mainstream) poison, my first thought would be to reach for the catholics. They're like wal mart, huge and ancient so they get a lot of scrutiny, but hardly the worst thing around.
Andy, really? If the default response to anything Catholic is to smack the pinata, it may have something to do with the anti-gay, anti-human rhetoric coming out of Bill Donohue and the Catholic League. He, and that organization, does little to further the cause of Jesus.
Why exactly is the catholic church such a pinata these days? Sure, it's got it's issues, but it is doing more for people with HIV than anything else, including the US Govt. and our host of aids charities. It takes exception to nonmarried sex and birth control, not prevention. It has been very clear and consistent in this stance.
Hey, if the devil wants me to have free meds, I'll take the free meds.
Concerned
I am happy the Pope wants to help with HIV/AIDS medication cost in Africa. My concern is why is everything going to Africa and so many in USA and other Countrys need assistance with medication cost as well.
