ENOUGH ARGUING OVER THE PAST! It was a different time. Faced with a different danger.... something unknown. It would be irresponsible to look back 30 yeasr ago and judge people with the eyes of someone from 2019. Now we know what we are dealing with and it is not the death sentence that it used to be. We have grown. we have learned. I should know... I have been blessed to have lived the past 30 years and have seen the evolution of people's perceptions. Stop it please. I beg you.

First, jmc2019, it's very real. 2nd, I'm not an apologist for anything! 3rd, I never spoke about my support for Barr. What I do support is current and substantive info presented without bias. And this article is lacking. Also, educate yourself regarding the role of the AG. He/she does NOT implement policy or law. Primarily, he enforces, provides council to the Executive Branch, and interprets existing federal laws. Finally, what a shame that a person is only as good as their conduct 30 yrs ago!

I was so happy to see the comments from 'World Observer' & 'Alsoposotive'. This article is garbage in my mind. It's FULL of bias, without any details and an effort to perpetuate this BS narrative about individuals who don't align with your political ideology. Does anyone actually realize, and appreciate, the country in which we live? And how incredible it is? Everything that we have, all that we do, everything that we give. Yes, always room to improve, but give me a break. (+ since 1999)

Unreal. Apologists for Barr. What REALLY MATTERS is his conduct in the 80's & 90's regarding HIV & LGBT issues AND what this man can implement in policy once approved by the lackey Republican Senate. Yes WORLD OBSERVER, the 'attitudes' were different, as you say, in the 90's, but much ignorance is still with us today. No excuse for supporting this man...none. And Alsoposotive, we knew in the 80's & 90's how to protect ourselves and today PrEP can eliminate nearly 100% chance of acquiring HIV.

Did the author try to reach out to Barr, or his staff, for clarification or his CURRENT position regarding the stated issues? As a volunteer for a HIV housing facility in New Orleans in '93, protocol was to add BLEACH to the dishwasher for everyone's safety. And hospitals in large cities were facing serious challenges in their attempts to treat HIV+ Americans. In fact, many of them had HIV wards! Attitudes were different in the 90's. Straube shows bias intent with messaging from the Daily Beast.

Seriously, we needed to control the spread of this disease. Baring immigrants (not tourists) in 1991 was expected by most responsible people including doctors and this patient. I know most of you who read this will think I am a biget and a traitor to the community. We can not afford to treat every Poz person in the Western Hemisphere let alone the unknown hundreds of thousands persons in the world who would love to live in our country.
