It is worth noting that in Australia we do not use the USA definition of AIDS; specifically we do not include people who are or have been below a CD4 count of 200. Our AIDS cases have to have had an AIDS-defining illness. So it is a bit easier for us to point out that AIDS isn't relevant any more. In common, AIDS is said to be forever even after recovery. Is there any other medical diagnosis with such a stigmatising and mean-spirited definition? We are better off without it.
