Yep, I'm one of those statistics. I contracted HIV.while in my youth, most likely because I was too timid to insist on protection, because as a Black Gay man in a predominantly White Gay community, I too greatly feared rejection. I imagined that moment of being desired as frail and evanescent. Given the amount of overt racism I experienced, that belief likely had basis. With regard to these studies, I do wonder about the impact of disportionate incarceration. Are prisoners even tested for HIV?

I Truly Enjoyed Reading This Article And Was More Enlightend By It. However, I Do Think More Needs To Be Done To Reach Out And Educate The Down Low Population (men who secretly have sex with men while openly dating women, but who do not identify as gay or bisexual), And The Younger Age Groups As Well. We Attack This Issue From All Sides To Inform All. Thanks For A Wonderful Article. "Positive Education Must Rule The Nation".

There is a need for Black men who test negative for HIV to tell how we stay negative. At age 58 I've tested negative twice annually since 1989. My self imposed discipline is No anal sex in any position, no exceptions. Frottage, also called outercourse, body rubbing, and grinding to orgasm allows intimacy with HIV positive partners. Fellatio to orgasm with no condom is not the high risk factor prevention agencies claim it to be. My MACS #23075 and my mother's maiden name, Moore.

The CDC can only do so much, Skip. I am not saying they are blameless, but until Americans can get off their high horse and stop judging people living with the virus, we won't have any changes in the infection rates. Schools MUST teach comprehensive sex-ed, alongside abstinence education, in order to give everyone the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their partners. We don't want to lose another generation to this virus, because of the silence and judgement of others.

When will the CDC be held accountable. They dictate what prevention services they will fund even though all of those services have been a dismal failure. Epidemiologists do not know what it is like to grow up in a religious based sexually suppressed environment, while hormones are raging thru young persons. They also need to find what works, like in other countries. You have people that are HIV positive talking to people that look just like them about prevention.
