A new campaign seeks to raise awareness among HIV-positive black men who have sex with men (MSM) about their health privacy rights, according to a statement by the Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services, which is sponsoring the campaign. The “Information Is Powerful Medicine” campaign highlights key protections under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. For example, patients can ask to see or get a copy of their health information, including an electronic copy, with limited exceptions.
