Patrick: You should definitely stay on HIV meds & talk to your doctor about your cancer treatment options and how those therapies could interact with antiretrovirals. There are no blanket contraindications for people with HIV taking cancer immunotherapy — and many have — but everyone's situation is different.
I am confused. Just had a diagnosis with stage IV hcc. Oncologist offers immunotherapy and I am and have been taking antivirals since 94, poz since 86 and currently taking biktarvy. Is taking both therapies a detriment? Being faced with stage 4 says 'address this cancer' but giving up retroviral therapy scares me! Can or will you help me ease this anxiety?!
My father was treated with Keytruda as the only available option for his situation. Within hours of receiving the 2nd dose, he was stricken with Myesthinia Gravis. Being very rare, M.G. was unfamiliar to the staff at the E.R. I took him to that evening. The next day the Neurologist made the diagnosis. After a month of suffering the effects of M.G., in the Fall of 2019, he died. I would rather continue my 4 drug HAART, than risk the unknown side effects of Keytruda. Just my opinion. Peace.
Bravo to our researchers. This is fascinating and very encouraging. 25-30 years ago dreaming of a cure wasn't possible as there was no effective treatment. HIV treatments have turned a death sentence into a manageable condition. When I read stuff like this I think of all of my dear friends who are no longer with us. HIV has led to miraculous discoveries in the medical field and helped pave the way for many effective treatments for some cancers. Hats off to our researchers.
After living with HIV for 25 years this is at least one of the most positve things I have heard in a while.I was in several clinical trials in the early years and i just want to thank all the others as well to make these kind of discoveries possible and I will always hold out hope for a cure in my lifetime

I have been living with HIV for 20 years. Mostly undetectable with daily treatment. No major infections or drop in T-Cells. I would like to be involved in a keytruda study if I could maintain my ongoing treatment.
