The National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) announced the 2016 Youth Scholars for its Youth Initiative to End AIDS in America.

According to an NMAC press release, 30 scholars from across the nation have been confirmed as of April 5. The Youth Initiative offers mentorship and training to future leaders ages 18 to 25.

Scholars will participate in a nine-month program, during which they will design and implement youth-oriented HIV programs in their cities and states. They will also attend the annual U.S. Conference on AIDS (USCA), held this year from September 15 to 18 in Hollywood, Florida.

The Youth Initiative is sponsored by NMAC in collaboration with ViiV Healthcare, Advocates for Youth and the Magic Johnson Foundation.

“The Youth Scholars selected for the 2016 program are extraordinary catalysts for change, motivating peers and communities to do remarkable things,” said Jacqueline Coleman, director of the NMAC Leadership Pipeline and program manager for the Youth Initiative, in the press release. “Through skills-based and leadership training—in addition to attendance and networking at USCA—the Youth Initiative will equip the scholars with additional knowledge and intergenerational connections necessary to help end the HIV epidemic in the United States.”
